Mangaluru, Nov 01, 2017: The 62nd Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations were held with grandeur and gaiety in Mangaluru on November 1, Wednesday. A colourful procession of Kannada Bhuvaneshwari was taken out from Jyothi Circle to Nehru Maidan, the venue of the celebration.
After the rendering of the State Anthem, DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honour followed by a parade.
Delivering the Rajyotsava Address, Minister Ramanatha Rai spoke on the various welfare schemes of the state government and called upon all people of the land to love and respect Kannada language, literature and culture. He also stated that the state government was committed to the protection of the interests of Kannada language.
As many as 15 achievers and four organisations were conferred the Kannada Rajyotsava Awards on the occasion. Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner D Sasikanth Senthil, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC and Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Police Commissioner T R Suresh, Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and many others were present.
