45 achievers from DK receive awards at Rajyotsava celebrations

Mangalore, Nov 1, 2011: The district-level Kannada Rajyotsava Awards 2011 were conferred on 45 achievers at a special event held on Nehru Maidan to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava on Nov 1 Tuesday.

District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar inaugurated the celebrations and said in his inaugural address that the state government has sanctioned Rs. 85,25,00,000 this year for rural development. He also said that Rs. 45.45 crore will be spent on developing a 149-km stretch of road under the Vidhan Sabha constituency. Further, he said that the government has selected 33 villages under the third phase of the Suvarna Rural Development project worth Rs. 31 crore.

Palemar then conferred the Rajyotsava Awards on the achievers in recognition and appreciation of their contributions to art, journalism, social work, culture, and so on.

He also received the salute at the march past conducted by the civil police, traffic police, NCC, scouts and guides, Bharat Sevadal, Karnataka State Reserve Police, District Armed Reserve Police, Home Guards, Naval Junior, Naval Senior, Police Band, and the Road Safety Patrol.

A procession from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan, featuring a wide range of tableaux, marked the beginning of the event.

Eight children, including Vaishnavi Ballal, Anantharam U. R., Chinmay, Shalan Pais, Neha B., Shubham Varnekar, K. N. Bharath Rao, and Aastha Aithal were honored for their achievements.


The Road Safety Patrol and the Guides received the first and the second prize, respectively for presenting the best march past.


Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat, MLAs U T Khader and Abhaychandra Jain, Deputy Commissioner Channappa Gowda, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, SP Labhu Ram, MP Nalin Kumar, Coastal Development Authority Chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, Mayor Praveen, and others were also present.


An attractive cultural presentation by school children formed the highlight of the Rajyotsava celebrations.
