4 dead and several injured in car – bus collision

Bhatkal, Apr 28, 2012 : Four people died on the spot and many were injured in a road accident at Moglihonda in Bhatkal on April 27 Friday at around 8:45 p.m.

 

A group of people were travelling from Mangalore to Moglihonda when their cruiser car dashed into a bus they were trying to overtake. The car has been completely smashed while the bus turned turtle and fell into a roadside ditch.

Of the 8 people in the cruiser, four died on the spot and the other four, including 2 children, have been critically injured. The deceased are two children, the car driver, and a woman, the mother of one of the children.

The bus was taking 42 passengers from Mangalore to Gulbarga and all of them have been injured. Fr. Godwin Serrao, the former director of the Aloysius College Boys’ Hostel and now principal of St. Aloysius College Gulbarga, was also travelling in the bus. Some of the injured passengers have been taken to Government Hospital Bhatkal and others have been admitted to hospitals in Mangalore.

Besides hitting the bus, the car also hit two electric poles, owing to which electricity supply has been disrupted. The accident caused a traffic block that lasts over an hour.

Police personnel including Circle Inspector Shivaprakash and Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Narayan with the help of members of Top Help rushed the injured to various hospitals.
