Mangaluru, Mar 20, 2019: At least 34 cases of violation of election model code of conduct were reported in the district so far, stated Udupi DC, Hephsiba Rani Koralapati
“Also, 5,429 litres of alcohol valued at Rs 17.68 lakh and Rs 1.50 lakh unaccounted cash was seized,” the DC told media on March 19, Tuesday.
“The filing of nominations in the district has begun. The deadline for filing nominations is March 26. Nominations will not be accepted on March 23 and 24 as they are public holidays,” she indicated.
She said there are 14,94,444 voters in the constituency while there are 555 service voters. There were 1,837 polling booths in the constituency.
Koralapati assured that all basic facilities were provided at polling booths. People with disabilities would be given required assistance at the polling booths.
She said around 40,000 voters had participated in programmes organised to create awareness on EVMs and VVPATs. Sveep activities were taken up in different parts of the district, she added.
She said for the next 15 days, they would focus on vulnerable and critical areas to ensure highest ever polling percentage. Elaborating on the measures taken against election code of conduct violations, the DC added that the violators would not be allowed to go scot free.
“Candidates should open new accounts and keep track of the money spent during the campaign. Eight assistant returning officers will be in-charge of the election process.” she said.
The district election office is receiving complaints through cVigil app. Voters helpline and ‘Chunavana’ App are also available for lodging complaints,” she added. The public were urged to co-operate and benefit.
