Mangalore, Aug 11, 2012 : The Karnataka State Science Parishad organized a 3-day state-level workshop to counter blind beliefs and superstitions at the Institution of Social Development in Nanthoor. Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, chief executive officer of DK Zilla Panchayat, inaugurated the workshop on Aug 10, Friday.

Delivering the inaugural address on the occasion, the ZP CEO said that inculcating the spirit of science in the younger generation is of paramount importance.

In his address, Janavigyana Samithi Convener Shri Shaila Gholi flayed prevalent practices such as vaasthu and urulu seve, demanding to know why one has to take the trouble of getting an MBBS degree and specializing in dermatology if rolling on the floor can cure skin ailments.


St. Agnes College Principal Prem D’Souza and Samudaya President R. K. Hudagi also spoke on the occasion.


Narendra Nayak, president of the Federation of Rationalists Associations of India, delivered several lectures during the workshop.
