Mangalore, Feb 18: Prof. Chinnappa Gowda, the registrar of Mangalore University, inaugurated Namma Angadi, a 3-day exhibition and sale of rural products at Ravindra Kala Bhavan in University College on Feb 18, Friday.

In his inaugural address, he said that rural arts and crafts, which represent the culture and traditions of our country, should be encouraged. He said that respecting rural art is akin to respecting the culture of our country, especially because these products are sustainable and eco friendly.


P. P. Hegde, the advocate and vice chairman of the Karnataka State for Council, was the guest of the honor. In his address, he said that young people should be encouraged to consider production of eco friendly products as a great job opportunity.


Associate Director Ganapathy said that the rural market needs to be expanded and strengthened.


Namma Angadi displays handicrafts, handlooms, and eco friendly products such as cotton kurta for men and women, shirts, lavancha products, kalamkari dress material, artistic saris, children’s clothing, traditional utensils, home accessories, terracotta products, traditional footwear, ethnic jewelry, pure wild honey, kokum, shikakati, aloe vera soaps, rare paintings, organic food products, wooden furniture, key chains, earrings, articles, and others, available in the range of Rs. 5 to Rs. 100.


Namma Angadi is open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on all three days. Live demonstration on terracotta sculpting by talented artisans is the highlight of the exhibition.
 

Laxmi Shenoy A., the public relations coordinator of Namma Angadi; Anil Biddappa, the event coordinator of Namma Angadi; and Nishanth Kaverappa, the event coordinator of Namma Angadi were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
