Two girls from Dakshina Kannada have been selected to participate in the national athletics camp, which will be organized in Bhopal in order to prepare candidates for the Asian and World championships. Their coach, Vasanth Kumar, is the only coach from Karnataka who is invited to participate in this camp.
The girls selected for the camp are Joylin Mural Lobo, a 100-meter runner from Alva’s College in Moodubidri, and Rebecca Jose of Kadaba who is also being trained at the Center for Excellence in Bangalore. These two are also the only women athletes selected from Karnataka to attend the national camp.
Another athlete, M. Arshad from Mysore, a triple jumper who is getting trained at the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports Hostel in Bangalore, is the third athlete from Karnataka who has been selected for the camp.
The athletes who are chosen for the camp have to prove that they are capable of meeting international standards in their respective events. After their training at Bhopal, they have to participate at a national junior athletics championship, which will be organized at Warangal of Andhra Pradesh. At the end of this event, a team of best athletes will be chosen for the Asian and World Sports Meet, which is to be organized in China.
