Mangaluru, Mar 20, 2017 : The task of laying underground electricity cables, a longstanding vision of Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, has been initiated on an experimental basis with the first phase works commencing at a cost of Rs 6 crores.
The underground cable laying work is presently underway between Bendurewell-Hampankatta and AB Shetty Circle under the supervision of MESCOM Executive Engineer Manjappa.
The task has been taken up as underground cables are more secure and safe rather when compared to over head cables. MLA Lobo hopes more funds may be released for the next phase of the project.

When there is no control on who can dig across the roads, laying down electric cables will have interesting moments. People in general have little to no respect for civic amenities. Even professional (or so called professional) workers at construction sites will blindly dig using JCB machines. We have seen phone cables and water lines being damaged on account of this. This time, we will see people getting electrocuted.Maybe then they might stop being irresponsible.A good dream but in a wrong bed. | |
