Mangaluru, April 20, 2015: At least 42 of the hundred students of 1965 SSLC batch from St Agnes High School in Mangaluru, one of the oldest girls institutions in South India, came together again after 50 years, on April 18.
For each of them it was reliving their school days for one evening. Recalling many a memorable incidents during their years of schooling. While a few remembered names of their batchmates, few others tried their best to recall their friends’ names as well as nicknames. They came from many places far and near.
Recalling the efforts behind organising the get-together, golden reunion convenor Dr Audrey Pinto, presently professor of Psychology at Roshni Nilaya, said that spurred by meeting a few from the batch here the idea came about.
Three teachers of the 1964-65 batch too took part in the celebrations and the students honoured them. They included Sr Florine (Home science teacher), Sr Stanislus (History teacher) and Matilda D’Souza (Home science teacher). While 88-year-old Juliana Lobo (Maths teacher) could not make it, the then headmistress Sr Vergelia AC is presently hospitalised it is learnt.
To make their golden reunion memorable, the "students," now full fledged Senior Citizens, decided to raise funds to provide uniform to 10 needy and deserving students every year and also to support education of five students (high school).
