173 new Covid-19 positive cases in DK; 217 cases in Udupi on August 6

Mangaluru, August 6, 2020: 173 people from Dakshina Kannada and 217 people from Udupi tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, August 6, 2020. Eleven more Covid-19 fatalities were recorded in DK and six deaths in Udupi district today, taking the tally in DK to 201 and 50 in Udupi.

Among the 173 new cases DK, 119 are from Mangaluru, four from Moodbidri, one from Mulky, 21 from Bantwal, four from Beltangady, 13 from Puttur, two from Kadaba, five from Sullia and four are from outside the district. As many as 107 patients were discharged from hospital today.


With this the total Covid 19 positive cases in the DK district rose to 6,715. As many as 3,116 persons have been discharged and 3,398 cases are currently active. 201 deaths have occurred including 11 deaths today.

Udupi district has reported 217 fresh cases on Thursday. Among them, 90 are from Udupi, 81 from Kundapur, 44 from Karkala and two from outside the district. Now, the Udupi has a total of 5,360 cases with 2,153 still being treated at the designated hospitals. 3,157 patients recovered and discharged including 85 discharges today. The district has reported 50 COVID-19 fatality.

DC Dr K V Rajendra said all medical colleges in DK district must carry out 100 rapid antigen tests free of cost. The Arogya mitras appointed to each of the medical college hospitals should discharge their duties pro-actively and help patients referred there obtain free treatment as desired by the government, he said, adding hospitals charging patients in excess of fees prescribed by the government will face severe scrutiny under KPME Act.
