Civil Contractors’ Association vice-president Mahabala Kottari told mediapersons that the construction sector which is the biggest revenue generator for government has suffered due to scarcity of sand. Work on 80 to 100 high rise buildings and 500 buildings under construction had been stalled due to unavailability of sand.

The stakeholders will decide on the next course of action after meeting district-in-charge secretary V Ponnuraj, who is visiting the district on October 10, he said.

CREDAI president Naveen Cardoza, Mahesh of Mangaluru Paint Dealers’ Association, Ramakrishna Rao of Civil Contractors’ Association, Purshottam Shenoy of Cement Dealers’ Association, Mansoor of Steel Dealers’ Association, among others, were also present at the press meet.
