Mangalore, November 12: While most of the parents prepare their children to become a part of the ongoing rat race of the competitive world, there are very few parents who let their children pursue their interest in arts, said senior artist P Purushotham Karanth after inaugurating ’Chithaprabhavali’, a painting exhibition of 14-year-old Vaishnavi Rao at Prasad Art Gallery on Thursday.

Karanth said that artist Vaishnavi was fortunate to have parents who stood by her and made her follow her interest without dumping their aspirations on her.

“Talents like Vaishnavi should be appreciated. Government has various awards for talented children and it is the duty of the parents to recognise the talent in their child and guide them accordingly,” said Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Shakuntala A.

Vaishnavi Rao is studying in class 10 in Aided Vidyadayani High School. She studied art in Kalabharathi Institution under art teacher Manoranjini. Vaishnavi is also proficient in Music, Dance and Karate. About 35 paintings by the young artist are displayed in the art gallery and are open for public viewing till November 14. (DHNS)
