108 personnel protest against harrassment

Mangalore, April 24: The staff of the 108 ambulances under “Arogya Kavacha” staged a state-level protest on Saturday, following the suicide of one of their coworkers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The deceased is Sharana Basappa, who was employed as a 108 ambulance employee at Sindhagi in Bijapur. He allegedly committed suicide because of the harrassment of GVK officials. GVK manages the 108 service on a contract basis. Reportedly, the deceased was critically ill for some time.

The 108 staff throughout the state protested against the harrassment meted out to the deceased employee by the GVK officials.

In Mangalore, the staff of the 108 service parked their ambulances in front of the DC’s office and staged a demonstration. They demanded immediate action against the guilty GVK officials. They also demanded job security and other facilities for the 108 staff. Demanding the scrapping of the contract system, they urged the government to employ them directly.
