Mangaluru, Dec 1, 2014:A labourer was killed and two others were injured in a landslide at the site of the construction of an underpass at Padil-Bajal Railway level crossing near Kankanady Railway station at 8.30pm on Monday, December 1.
The deceased has been identified as Mangal (25), a native of Madhya Pradesh.According to eyewitnesses Mangal got trapped under a pile of mud as earth caved in even as he was trying to pull out other workers. The mishap took place when fabrication work to prepare the ground for laying the foundation for the underpass was going on at a depth of about 30 ft.
The construction work of under-pass at the Railway crossing was underway round the clock since the past few weeks. The work is being undertaken by Vijaya Infra-tech from Mumbai.
As many as eight workers were on duty at the site when the mishap took place. It has been gathered that the deceased Mangal had joined work along with Namdev just a few weeks ago.
Police and fire service personnel who rushed to the spot helped in the rescue operation. The injured workers have been shifted to hospital.
Kankanady Police are investigating the case.
