Mangaluru, May 8, 2017: Delivering a talk in Mangaluru city on sage Bhagiratha on account of Bhagiratha Jayanti organised at Srinivas University, Professor Vadiraja Kalluraya has said that attempts to change the course of water will result in disaster.  Prof.Kalluraya made an oblique reference to the burning issues over water in the recent days.

Bhagiratha

Prof. Kalluraya said that, "One should never interfere with natural resources like land and river otherwise they will have to experience the wrath of nature which can be disastrous and unexpected."  Amidst dissuading attempts by others, Kalluraya eulogised Bhagiratha, who is known for his selfless desire to bring Ganga (river Ganges) to earth and appealed to students to take a cue from the saint.

Earlier, Chief Whip of the State in the Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza said that, "Bhagiratha is known for his unwavering will to fetch water and should be the icon for youngsters." He said the saint possessed a mighty will. He quoted a phrase in Kannada: "bhagiratha prayatna" and stated that the saying is still relevant and can be applied in all spheres of life.

The society can learn some lessons from the great personality who worked for the cause of others by sacrificing his own desires, he said. He said B Ed students have the onus of shaping human resource and must draw inspiration from the sage. Many B Ed students were part of the gathering.

Chairman of Cashew Development Corporation B H Khader, VC of Srinivas University Dr V S Aithal, Srinivas B Ed College Principal Rajashri and Assistant Director and Kannada and Culture Department D Ravikumar were present at the event.
