eddie Mangalore, August 6: The executive Committee of the Konkani Kutum, Bahrain Based voluntary forum has selected Eddie Netto, a well-known Konkani Writer, for ‘Konkani Kutam award’ -2 010.  Fr. Richard Coello, Administrator of father Muller Medical College Hospital, will bestow the award to Eddie Netto in a function to be conducted at St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall, Bendore on Friday August 13 at 6pm.

A press release stated that ‘Konkani Kutum’ Bahrain is a voluntary forum exclusively formed for promoting Konkani language, literature and culture. S Noronha, president of Rachana , The Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Melwyn Peris, renowned Konkani singer and musician, will be the guests of honour.


He was selected for the award after recognizing his vast contribution to the Konkani literature and Language. The award consists of a citation, memento and cash prize of Rs 50,000.


He was born to the late Amando Netto and the late Francisco Netto at Jeppu, Mangalore in 1983. His father was a great drama artist. Netto had completed his primary education at St Joseph School, Jeppu and higher primary education from St Aloysius College, Mangalore. He was a potential writer, singer, actor and composer. With the inspiration from his brother Luvi Netto, an actor, and guidance from great writer J S Alvares, he grew into a well writer, actor, composer and singer. While studying in high school, he had written many novels in Kannada.


After his education, he joined Indian Air force in 1956 at the age of 18. As an officer, Eddie had participated in 1962 China war, 1965 Pakistan war and 1971 Bangla war. He has also succeeded to bag Rastrapathi Puraskar and, five military medals for his meritorious service in IAF. To keep spiritual relationship with his native through his writings from Indian fan off places like Assam, Kashmir, Punjab, Rajastahan till today he wrote around 2592 literatures. He was working as missile officer at the time of his retirement in 1993.


The other awards he achieved were Divo Mumbai award - 2002, Konkani Sahitya Academy Award - 2005, Kuwait Konkani Talent Award - 2006 and Daiji Dubai Award – 2008.


Richard Moras, convener, onkani Kutum, Bahrain and Titus Noronha, Chief award committee was present in the press meet.
