She was speaking after inaugurating the International Day of the Girl Child with the theme " Magalannu Ulisi Magalannu  Odhisi" at the Netravathi Auditorium of DK Zilla Panchayat on October 20, Tuesday. The function was organised by the District Administration in association with various organisations.

 MLA Dr Bharath Shetty who presided over the function stressed the need to achieve  gender equality in the society.

As many as 17 girls from aided and government high schools  who scored high marks in the SSLC exams   were felicitated  with a cash prize of Rs 5,000. Seventeen  schools which registered cent percent result in SSLC were also feted.

The Ujire Government  Higher  Primary School which   has provided a girl child friendly atmosphere in the school was honoured with a  cash incentive of Rs 30,000.  A cash incentive of Rs 1,000 each being given to  parents of  baby girls born on the first Thursday  of every month was also presented to  parents of two children in a symbolic way out of the 110 children identified for the incentive.

Dr Durgaprasad, RMO of Ladygoschen Hospital, ZP Vice President Kasturi Panja, Mayor Diwaker Pandeshwar,  Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Dayananda G Kattalsar,  ZP CEO Dr Selvamani  and others were present.
