’Earth Hour’, Kudla too is aware and smart

Mangaluru, Mar 26, 2017:In this smart city there was much concern about the ’earth hour’ looking at one happening; students of PA College of Engineering formed the shape of ’Mother India’ on the earth and rendered song and cheer to Mother Nature, ’Torch March’ using mobile phones, and such events underscored the significance of environmental conservation as part of Earth Hour in Mangaluru city March 25, Saturday.

The APD Foundation, an NGO, in association with students of PA College of Engineering at Forum Fiza Mall was one highlight. Concerned people, dignitaries, students assembled themselves in the shape of Earth and India at the Forum Mall.

As darkness fell, mobile torch march by students gave a lead, Forum Fiza Mall switched off the signage lights and other lights to mark the Earth Hour. The focus of the Earth Hour 2017 was to spread the message of environmental conservation and sensitizing the importance of sustainable living amongst the city dwellers, the organisers said.


APD Foundation founder Abdullah Rehman said that Earth Hour is a global movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). "The event is marked worldwide annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. The movement has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns all over the world."  Being committed to protection of natural environment, APD Foundation has decided to observe Earth Hour in association with Forum Fiza Mall and students of PA College of Engineering with a two day event March 25 and 26, he said.


A day long workshop was held by the APD Foundation on the importance of waste segregation and environment pollution to the customers in the mall as part of the programme. The event on the first day concluded with candle light dining at Food Court of the mall.


Today, March 26, Sunday, a bicycle rally will be held in association with Mangalore Bicycle Club at 7am to herald the message of fuel conservation. Photo booth for customers with placards about environment pollution/ save environment slogans will be another event that is expected to attract visitors at the mall on the second day. Day long workshop and street play on waste segregation will be held for customers at the mall today.
