Minister Khader agreed to problems caused to people by holding the birth centenary of Tipu Sultan during Diwali. He said that advertisements about the function issued by Minorities Welfare Department that said about welfare measures of the Government did give an impression that the function relates to one community.

“While conducting such events in sensitive areas like ours these issues need to have been discussed and streamlined,”  Khader said and added, “We will correct it in the coming years.” Khader said there were directions of the Government to hold discussions in the districts before holding the Jayanti.  “I am not aware whether it was done here (in Mangaluru),” he said.

Minister Khader, however, questioned BJP - Bharatiya Janata Party for questioning birth centenary celebration of Tipu Sultan, who had fought against British and also stood for solidarity and communal harmony. “Your own leader (B.S. Yeddyurappa) wore a peta and spoke during Tipu Jayanti few years ago. Why are you questioning now.”

Khader said there was no political gain either for the BJP, who are opposing the Jayanti and the Social Democratic Party of India, who are in favour of the celebrations.
