’Sophiya’ new Konkani movie, grand ’Muhurat’ held

Mangaluru, Sep 14, 2016: A new Konkani movie, a first  under the banner of Janet Productions - ’Sophiya, A dream girl’- was launched September 12. It is set to be the first Konkani movie produced by a lady.  Mangaluru south constituency, MLA  JR Lobo along with  Chief whip of Karnataka legislative council, MLC Ivan D’Souza, launched the banner of the movie heralding ’muhurtha’ .  The movie is being produced by Janet Noronha, mother of the now famous movie actress Esther, for her daughter’s birthday.

 

 

Speaking on the occasion MLA JR Lobo said, " Esther’s dedication in her journey in the arts will raise her to great heights. The effort by her mother Janet must be appreciated and lauded, very few female movie producers in the industry are now there."

MLC Ivan D’Souza on the occasion said, "Esther is familiar to me from her childhood days, and I was one of the guests for her Rangapravesha. The heights she scaled today, in her profession, is due to her hard work as a child, and the support of her mother. Our community is proud of her achievements."

"Konkani is making many movies, it is a golden successful time.  We must all support the producers of the movie by watching it in theatres. I wish luck to Janet Noronha and the film crew," said Roy Castelino, the president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.  Richard Castelino of ‘Bangar Patler’ fame, called for all Konkani producers to work in support of each other rather than vying amongst each other. He also urged the state government to bestow three awards for movies of regional languages - Tulu, Konkani, Beary, Kodava - so that only one movie is not awarded as is now, and to increase the aid for the award winning movies to Rs 15 lacs.

The key address was delivered by the chancellor of Mangaluru Diocese, Rev Henry Sequeira, inaugurating the event with Rev Antony Lobo. In his brief address, he wished the producer and the crew God’ speed.  The Bollywood director of ’Saajan’ fame, Lawrence D’Souza, launched the teaser of the movie.  Janet Noronha welcomed the gathering, while Esther Noronha thanked them for their support through Noshibacho Khell and the  launch.

The star cast of the movie includes Elton Mascarenhas in the lead role alongside Esther Noronha. The cast of super hit Konkani movie Noshibacho Khell will give their support to this movie. 

The movie crew has on board- director and screenwriter, Harry Fernandes; cinematographer, Shafiq Shaikh; and music director, Gunavantha Sen. The movie will have veteran Goan movie maker, Prince Jacob, in a key supporting role. The production of this new konkani movie is set for month of October to commence.
