Udupi, Nov 19, 2019: At the ‘Kanaka Jayanti’ programme organised by Kanakadasa Adhyayana and Samshodhana Kendra, MAHE, at Nutana Mantapa in MGM College, Udupi; researcher Dr Arun Kumar stated that among the poet-saints who enriched Kannada literature, Kanakadasa draws our attention with his rational attitude.
“Kanakadasa’s poetry reveals his deep knowledge of worldly life. His independence and concern for life are the main features of his writings,” Dr Kumar highlighted the salient features of the Kanakadasa’s poems
“Kanakadasa’s rationalist attitude shaped the content of his poetry. Kanakadasa was one of the Dasa poets and not a rebel poet like the Vachanakaras. Yet, he tried to tread the path of Basavanna,” he explained.
MGM College Principal Dr M G Vijay presided over the programme. Varadesh Hiregange, coordinator of the Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Samshodhana Kendra, MAHE, was present.
Raghavendra Acharya of Manipal, accompanied by Shankar Shenoy and Madhavacharya, rendered the songs of Kanakadasa. The winners of the drawing competition on the occasion were handed prizes. There is much interest for Kanakadasa spread by this organisation.
