The chief guest for the concert was Tulu movie star Anoop Sagar. Mahesh Nayak, executive editor of Mangalore Today was the guest of honour. The concert also featured two guest artists: Reuben Machado, whose specialty is playing multiple instruments, regaled the crowds with his rare talent by simultaneously playing the guitar and a harmonica. He followed this up with a flute recital. He had earlier participated in the world cultural festival organized by Art of Living Foundation on the Banks of the River Yamuna in 2016. He is now selected for India’s Got Talent and is due to appear on TV soon.
The other guest artist was Fayaz, a winner of Meri Awaz Suno. He sang many classic songs and audience favourites. A star attraction of the evening was Master Arhan Rai, who at 10 years, was the youngest member of the group. He is a student of Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Konchady.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest actor Anoop Sagar expressed his best wishes to the club and hoped that it would scale greater heights. Guest of honour Mahesh Nayak appreciated the efforts of the club to convert their talent into a mission to reach out to society at large.
The live band comprising Sharu Fernandes, Vinit D’costa and Wilston was led by Shrest R. Kadri on the drums. The club founders and group admins Kamlesh H. Baldev and his wife Komal anchored the concert and also sang many songs.
Among the other functionaries are Itoop George and Melric Benroy D’souza, who do the photo shoots along with Stuart Vas, who manages the YouTube account.
The club started out in January this year as an informal practice group with Kamlesh Baldev generously lending his office space for singing practice. Young Thushar Shivam, a student of Lourdes Central School, was the first member to join the club. He is a guitarist and singer. Today he is also the co-ordinator for the group.
The key objective of the club is to give its members the chance to practice singing and promote the talents of music lovers. The club does not collect costs or charge any fees from the members. It also conducts monthly charity concerts at public places. The club now has 32 members. It has attracted good media coverage too.
The group meets regularly for practice and audition at Kamlesh’s showroom ‘Baldev’s Travel Point’ at Juhi’s Boutique, Saibeen Mall.
