Mangaluru, Sep 26, 2017: Septuagenarian poet, playwright and intellectual writer Chandrashekar Patil popularly known as ’Champa’ will chair the 83rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelan that will be held at Mysuru from November 24 to 26.
The Kannada Sahitya Parishat, unanimously selected the name of the writer known as the foremost voice of Bandaya literary movement at its 101st executive committee meeting held at Talapady Mangaluru, on Sept 25, Monday.
Announcing this decision after the executive committee meeting, Manu Baligar, president of the Parishat said while the 34-member executive committee did discuss the names of folklorist N R Naik from Uttara Kannada district, feminist writer Sara Abubakkar from Mangaluru, writers Veena Shanteshwar from Dharwad and Latha Rajashekar from Mysuru, a majority of the members backed Champa and the committee then settled for his name unanimously.
"The Parishat has a time tested history of deliberating on names of writers, poets to chair the annual all India level Kannada literary meet. This was the case with Baragur Ramachandrappa when his name was chosen for the 82nd literary meet held at Raichur in 2016," Baligar said, adding it is a matter of pride for the literary body that the executive committee has chosen former president of the Parishat for the topmost honour that a writer, poet is accorded.
