‘Bale Muhurtham’ by Pejawar pontiff commences paryaya ceremonies

Udupi, Dec 7, 2014: Planning and arranging the grand and solmn fifth Paryaya of Pejawar mutt seer Sri Vishweshatheertha Swamiji  commenced with  the ‘Bale Muhurtham’ performed jointly by Pejawar mutt seer and his junior seer.

Pejawar pontiff had  decided to adorn the Paryaya Peetha for the fifth time adding a new leaf in Sri Krishna mutt and the historical inheritance of the temple, handed down for more than 800 years. Saint Vadiraja of the Sode mutt had performed four Paryaya ceremonies and had dethroned himself for the fifth time and directed his disciples to take over. The 84-year-old Vishweshatheertha Swami ascended the Peetha and administered the temple in 1954-56, 1969-71, 1985-87 and 2000-2002.

’Bale Muhurtham’ is the first preparatory ritual before the main event of Paryaya festival in which the incoming Swamiji, who is to taking over the charge of Sri Krishna mutt for next two year term from the outgoing seer under biennial Paryaya system among the eight Swamijis (Asta Mutt). Here the seer performs Pooja to the sapling of banana plantation and Tulasi seeds and leaves. This is the first of the four important rituals that need to be performed on fixed Muhurtham days, before the actual ascension of Paryaya Peetha (Sarvajna Peeta) on January 18, 2015.

The Bale Muhurtham was held amidst the rituals and chanting of hymns with the would-be Paryaya Seer offering Poojas to Sri Krishna mutt followed by Sri Anantheshwara and Chandramouleshawar temples. He visited Sri Krishna temple and Mukyaprana temple and later offered prayers to ‘Subramanya Gudi,’ ‘Navagraha Gudi’ and ‘Goshale.’ The banana plantation saplings and Tulasi seeds and leaves were carried in the procession all over the car street. The biennial Paryaya ceremony involves ‘Bale Muhurtham,’ ‘Akki Muhurtham,’ ‘Kattige Muhurtham’ and ‘Bhattha Muhurtham’ as part of its pre Paryaya ritual. The mutt Vidwan and Purohith accompanied the seer during the ritual. The ritual was carried out in between 8.10 am and 8.20 am. The seer conducted ‘Navagraha Pooja’ prior to the ritual. Later ‘Navagraha Dana’ was held. The seer gave away nine varieties of cereals to mutt’s Vidwan and the representatives from Asta mutts on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Pejawar seer said that he is taking over the charge of the temple administration for two years owing to the pressure from the junior pontiff Sri Vishwaprasannatheertha Swamiji. He said he has elaborate plans for the two years of his tenure. He would bring out the spiritual and philosophical literature and scriptures for devotees and public in all languages. He would adopt one village in Udupi district, which is backward. The people in the village would be ensured with houses and power facilities. He would develop the land near the mutt by constructing the toilets and shopping complexes, health centers and parking slots. Spiritual communication would be the part of the two-year temple administration. He said he would set up an education centre at Pajaka Kshetra. The education centre would be upgraded into international standard residential school. The poor students would be offered education free of cost. He added he would upgrade the ‘Goshala’ (cattle shelter) in Neelavara. During the Paryaya ceremony, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured his presence. Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured to visit Sri Krishna mutt during the two year period of Paryaya of Pejawar seer.

Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Hedge said that Pejawar seer is the seer of all irrespective of caste and creed. Each individual can proudly claim the seer to be of his own. He added that Pejawar seer who is expert in the field of social service, education and morality would be guiding spirit for all. He stressed that ‘Bhakthi Pantha’ with pure love and selfless devotion towards god should be given more importance. All pretenses should cease and true pure devotion must prevail.
