Mangaluru May 13, 2016:  Department of Tourism, Karnataka in association with Chamber of Commerce and Mantra Surfing will organize “All Cargo Indian Open Surfing from May 27 to 29  at Sasihitlu Beach.

Addressing media persons at DC office on May 13 Friday, President of Mantra Surfing Kishore Kumar said that this is the  first surfing festival being organized in Karnataka.During the  three day event stand up paddling championships will  attract surfers from all over India to Mangaluru. The idea behind the event is to promote and showcase beaches of Karnataka as popular surfing & adventure destination, he added

He also said that  during the National surfing championships, events will be conducted for various categories such as under 16, Junior Boys 17-22, Seniors Men 22-28, Masters Men 28 & above and Women’s category. Participants from Maldives and Dubai will be participating in the event which will have nearly 1,900 participants.

 He also said that  the event will be officiated by Steve Robertson, General Manager for World Surf League and Tim Hain, General Manager Asian Surfing Championship. A Panel of International judges will be headed by Made Sachang from Indonesia. There is a total cash prize of Rs 6 lac for all the winning participants from across all categories.

DC A.B Ibrahim said that Mumbai Indians fielding Coach Jonty Rhodes, Delhi Daredevils cricketer Sanju Samson and Coach Paddy Upton are expected to witness this Surfing championship in Mangaluru.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner M Chandra Shekar congratulated the District Administration for taking up the initiative to promote surfing.

Meanwhile Michelle Quennie D’Costa was felicitated by DC A.B.Ibrahim for securing 387th rank in UPSC exam.

Speaking about the rains in the past couple of days,  DC A.B.Ibrahim said that water level of Thumbay has improved. In Mangaluru there has been 3cm of rainfall, Bantwal 4cm, Kuppepadav 4 cm and Kavalkatte had 2cm of rainfall.
