Women’s entry into Haji Ali: Bombay HC verdict today

Mumbai, Aug 26, 2016 DHNS: The Bombay High Court on Friday will give a judgment on women’s entry  into the inner sanctum of the Mumbai’s Haji Ali Dargah, according to reports.

 

The Haji Ali Dargah Trust had passed an order prohibiting women from entering the sanctum sanctorum of the dargah in 2012. Subsequently, a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed challenging the order of the Trust.

The issue got the momentum in April 2016 when more than 50 organisations and prominent personalities launched a movement, Haji Ali sabke liye, demanding women be allowed in the dargah.

They came under one banner to launch the movement against the backdrop of nationwide campaigns and protests seeking entry of women in temples.

Trupti Desai, the founder of Bhumata Ranragini Brigade, who spear-headed the campaign for entry of women at Shani Shingnapur temple, participated in that movement.
