Uttar Pradesh: Man shoots Army man dead for opposing harassment of colleague’s wife

Bareilly, Mar 22, 2018 : An Army jawan was shot dead by a person in full public view in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh for opposing the sexual harassment of a colleague’s wife. Both, the accused and the victim, are residents of Kori Mohalla in Sadar Bazar of Cantonment area. The murder has sent a wave of shock in the area.


The accused has been indentified as Dhruv Chaudhary. He shot dead Lance Naik Anil Kumar around 1 PM at BI Bazar. The victim was rushed to a the military hospital, in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to the police, Dhruv’s brother Rajesh had passed lewd remarks on the wife of an Army subedar when she was out to buy groceries. She informed her husband about the matter over phone who then narrated the whole incident to Anil.

Two days ago, Anil had visited Rajesh’s house but, did not find him there. He again visited his house and warned him not to harass the woman. On receiving the warning, Rajesh took up the phone and informed his brother (Dhruv).

An angry Dhurv confronted Anil in the middle of the market. He abused him and shot him twice, a report claims.

After committing the crime, Dhruv arrived at the police station and surrendered. A country-made pistol has been recovered from him.

Dhruv has been booked under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempted murder) of IPC on the complaint of Subedar Rajesh Kumar of Jat Regiment Centre.

The deceased Army man belonged to Khatima in Uttarakhand and is survived by his wife and two children – one is studying in class III and the other is in VI standard.
