Two women arrested at Delhi airport for smuggling gold worth Rs.42L

Delhi, Nov 08, 2018 : On Tuesday, two women travelling to Mumbai from Delhi were apprehended by airport security at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for trying to smuggle gold worth Rs. 42 lakh in a shoe.

The duo had landed at IGIA from Chennai and were about to catch a flight to Mumbai with the gold when they were apprehended.

According to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is in charge of India’s airport security, the incident took place early on Tuesday.

A woman security personnel of the CISF detected something suspicious in one of the women’s shoes.

Upon checking it, the CISF found eight small gold bars worth Rs. 42 lakh.


The two women were then questioned by security officials, but they could not provide a satisfactory explanation. Nor could they produce any relevant document pertaining to the purchase of the gold.

Subsequently, the gold, which weighed 1.32kg, and the two women were handed over to Income Tax Department officials, who will initiate further action against the duo.
