Telangana CM faces flak over hiring Rs 2-cr flight to China

Mangalore Today News Network

Hyderabad, Sep 05, 2015,DHNS:  Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has faced flak from the Opposition for deciding to travel abroad in a chartered  flight hired at a whopping cost of over Rs 2 crore Chandrasekhar Rao and his entourage are set to board a 50-seater Bombardier CRJ-100 aircraft to visit Dalian in China for a World Economic Forum meeting and some other countries between September 8 and 16.

Telangana CMA government order was issued clearing the trip after the chief minister’s office requested for the facility.

Terming the chief minister’s trip as an entertainment one, the Opposition parties criticised the chief minister  saying he has no time for the state’s farmers in distress.

Telangana, which came into existence last year, has an alarming rate of farmers’ suicide.
Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao said: “Probably Chief Minister KCR has no time for farmers, epidemics and the poor people.”

Dasoju Sravan Kumar, chief official spokesperson of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee said ChandrasekharRao’s tour is not an official one and rued that the massive amount which is being spent after the trip could have been used to pay poor students’ mess bills.

“This is an anti-people act,”he said. A government order has been issued clearing the trip after the chief minister’s office requested for the facility.

An advance payment of Rs 2,03,84,625 will be made to AR Airways, a private jet company based in Mumbai.

The BJP, too, raised objection to the act saying the chief minister could have travelled in the business class of a commercial airline.

Raking up the farmers’ suicide issue, BJP state president Kishan Reddy said the trip is like a slap on the face of the people of Telangana.

Nagam Janardhan Reddy, convenor of the Telangana Bachao Mission said the
chief minister should have visited the drought-affected areas of Telangana instead of making a trip to China.

‘Jets make it flexible’

The government defended its move. Sources in Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation said the exercise is to highlight the investment opportunities in Telangana and it will see more businesses as a result. It also said that executive jets will make it easier by adding flexibility in the travel itinerary.

In July, chief minister Rao’s custom-built bulletproof Mercedes Benz bus worth Rs 5 crore had also invited sharp criticism from the Opposition.
