Standing united with Army - UP woman, retd CISF man offer kidney to save Hanumanthappa

New Delhi, Feb 10, 2016: Even as India prays for Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad return from the precipice, a woman in Uttar Pradesh and a retired CISF head constable have turned their prayers into action by offering their kidney to the brave soldier.

Nidhi Pandey, a housewife from Lakhimpur Kheri, 167-km from the state capital, contacted a local news channel, seeking information on how to get in touch with Delhi’s Army Research & Referral hospital where Koppad is battling for life.

Pandey made the offer as medical examinations have revealed that the Siachen survivor, who is in coma, is suffering form liver and kidney dysfunction.

Retd CISF Head Constable Prem Swaroop, who apparently lives in Delhi, reached the R&R Hospital with a similar offer.

“I heard in news that Lance Naik Hanamanthappa’s kidney failed, so I came here to offer my kidney or any part of my body for him. It is my heart’s wish to do this,” said Swaroop.

Doctors attending to Koppad say that the next 24 hours would be crucial. He was conscious when he was pulled out from below 25 feet of snow but his condition has since deteriorated.

There has been an outpouring of prayers across the country for the brave soldier. President Pranab Mukherjee led the nation in sending out a prayer for Hanumanthappa; Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar visited him in the hospital.

A billion and more prayers....life for Hanumanthappa.
