Siachen avalanche survivor Lance Naik Hanamanthappa passes away

New Delhi, February 11, 2016: Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad who was rescued six days after he was buried under 35 feet of snow at an altitude of 20,500 ft on the Siachen glacier, passed away on Thursday at 11.45am.

koppad.Hanamanthappa had been rescued on Tuesday and had been brought to the Army R&R hospital for treatment.

In the last medical bulletin that had been released early on Thursday morning, his condition was reported to have been critical.

The report had stated: "Braveheart Lance Naik Hanamanthappa continues to remain extremely critical with worsening multiple organ dysfunction. His circulatory shock is now refractory to all drugs in maximum permissible doses and his kidneys remain non-functional.  His pneumonia has worsened and the blood clotting disorder shows no sign of reversal despite blood component support. He has slipped into a deeper state of coma.
