Shift ailing Lalu to AIIMS, recommends Medical Board

Patna, Mar 21, 2018 : The Medical Board of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Ranchi on Wednesday recommended that RJD president Lalu Prasad, undergoing treatment in the Jharkhand’s premier hospital, be immediately shifted to AIIMS, Delhi.

A copy of the recommendation by the eight-member board was sent to Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi where Lalu has been languishing ever since he was convicted in fodder scam on December 23. However, after Lalu complained of multiple health problems, including rectal piles and low haemoglobin on Saturday, he was shifted to cardiology department of RIMS on March 17.

"Lalu, suffering from a perianal abscess, has been surgically treated," a source in Ranchi told Deccan Herald over the phone. "But he has been recommended to be shifted to AIIMS for further and better treatment as it’s a high-profile case," the source, quoting doctors, added. Perianal abscess leads to the formation of pus around the rectum.

"The RJD chief is under observation as his serum creatinine has also increased. An increased creatinine could adversely affect the kidney," said the source.

It’s worth mentioning here that Lalu had undergone "aortic valve replacement" in August 2014 at a prominent hospital in Mumbai. He had been keeping good health in Ranchi jail and was occasionally seen cheerful in court. "However, his health deteriorated on last Saturday and was, therefore, shifted to RIMS where he is recuperating under the supervision of Dr Mrityunjay Sarawgi," informed the source.
