Bangaluru 9 Oct, 2015 : Politicians in India continue to make highly irresponsible and shocking statements even on most sensitive issues like gang-rape. This time, one such statement has come from a senior politician from Karanataka, who has said that two men raping isn’t a ’gang rape’.

The bizarre remark was made by none other than the Home Minister of Karnataka, Kelachandra Joseph George who said that he does not consider a rape as ’gang-rape’ unless more than two people are involved.

The minister made this remarks while replying to a question related to the alleged sexual assault of a BPO employee by two men in a tempo traveller.

“How is it a gang-rape if two people rape? Shouldn’t there be at least three or four people for it to be called gang rape?,” the Karnataka Home Minister said in his reply.

The minister, while expressing his curious concern over the definition of gang-rape, said that according to him at least three to four people are required for gang-rape.

George and his Congress party is likely to face the Opposition’s ire over the gang-rape of the BPO employee, which has triggered concerns over women’s safety in the IT state.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru police had arrested two people Suneel Omkarappa (23) and Yogesh Malleshappa (27), both drivers by profession for allegedly sexually assaulting the 22-year-old woman.

Police said that the two men are from Kadur in Chikmgalur district and have been in Bengaluru for the last three years.
