A total of 34,693 people from 8,033 families were shifted to 265 relief camps across the state, the control room monitoring rain-related incidents said.

Most of the southern districts in the state received heavy to very heavy rainfall, disrupting the normal life. At least 9 people have died in the state in the last three days in incidents related to rain and strong winds.

Educational institutions in many districts in the state have been shut for next four-five days. Many colleges had to postpone their exams, Manorama Online reported.

The Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki were the most affected districts in the state.

The rail traffic in Ernakulam-Alappuzha-Kayankulam line was disrupted after a tree fell on Antyodaya Express from Mangalore Jn to Kochuveli.

The incident led to a delay of 60-90 minutes in the route.

This was followed by more bad news as the waterlogging in Ernakulam Jn (South) state disrupted the electric signalling system. Rail traffic through the station was carried out by manual signalling, leading to further delay in the route.

Many trains moving to and from southern Kerala were delayed due to the signalling issue.

The road traffic was also badly hit in the state as many roads in high range areas were flooded in the rain.

Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway was blocked due to a mudslide in many parts of Idukki.

The situation was no different in Alappuzha as the AC road connecting Alappuzha and Kottayam was completely submerged in water.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who assessed the situation through video confessing with respective district collectors gave strict directives to release relief fund and other things people are in desperate need of.

The MeT department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in most parts of Kerala for the next couple of days.
