RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat declares support to BJP in forthcoming Assembly polls

Mangalore Today News Network

Mumbai, July 22, 2014:  Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) would be extending its support to Bharatiya Janata Party in the forthcoming Assembly polls. This was announced by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday during an event in Nagpur.

Mohan Bhagwat_There were media reports that RSS would not be supporting the BJP like it did during the Lok Sabha polls. It remains a fact that lakhs of RSS cadre had contributed in the elections campaign in promoting NDA candidates which resulted in the unprecedented victory for BJP and its allies.

This announcement by Bhagwat comes in wake of the meeting between BJP President Amit Shah and Bhagwat in Nagpur two days ago.

Prior to the meeting, there were reports about RSS chief Bhagwat not keen on supporting BJP in the Assembly polls as it would make the BJP dependent on RSS. However, Shah prevailed on Bhagwat over the issue of getting support from the RSS cadre in the Assembly elections.

Speaking at an event, Bhagwat said that the results of the Assembly elections would be a yardstick for measuring Narendra Modi’s performance as PM and hence RSS needs to put in same efforts that it did during the Lok Sabha polls.

Although the RSS cadre is already geared to take the plunge to work for BJP in the Assembly elections, however, the cadre is awaiting for the go-ahead from the RSS hierarchy.

In 2014, Legislative Assembly elections are expected to be held in Maharashtra, Delhi and Haryana. BJP is hoping to pull off a victory by dethroning the non-BJP government in these states.
