According to ANI, Ghosh had gone to the Cooch Bihar district to take part in BJP’s ’Rath Yatra,’ where his vehicle was attacked allegedly by ruling Trinamool Congress party goons.

The BJP has alleged TMC’s hand in the attack.

Ghosh was attacked when he was on his way to Mathabhanga in the district.

"I was attacked for the 10th time. There were TMC workers who attacked my car and shouted slogans demanding that I should go back. The police, as always, were mute spectators,’’ Ghosh said.

’’Some of my party workers were also injured during the violence," Ghosh said.

“Today in presence of police, the TMC goons attacked him (Ghosh). To condemn the incident, we’re on streets to give notice that if such activities continue, it proves Bengal has no democracy,’’ Mukul Roy of BJP said.

The district police administration said they are looking into the matter

The incident triggered widespread protest by the BJP workers in the area.

The attack on Ghosh’s convoy coincided with the Kolkata High Court’s refusal to grant permission to BJP for holding ’Rath Yatra’ from Cooch Behar in West Bengal.

The Calcutta High Court had earlier on Thursday denied permission to the BJP for holding Rath Yatra.

Notably, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal had earlier denied permission for the proposed Rath Yatra, which was slated to be attended by BJP president Amit Shah.

Denying the permission for the Rath Yatra, the Calcutta High Court scheduled the next hearing in the case on January 9, 2019.
