Pinarayi Vijayan opposes Adani group’s bid to develop Trivandrum International Airport

Trivandrum, Jun 13, 2019 : With the Union government mulling privatisation of six airports in India including the Trivandrum International Airport, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reiterated that he would not let the Adani group take over Trivandrum international airport, Yahoo reported.

 

Stating that his state government would oppose the Centre’s move Vijayan said on Wednesday, "Kerala CM reiterates that the state government will not let the Adani group take over Trivandrum international airport. We have informed the centre about the same, will appraise PM about the situation during the Niti Ayog meeting on June 15." The opposition by the Vijayan arrived after highest bidder in the game turns out to be the Adani group. If awarded the bid, Adani would manage, operate and develop the facilities and infrastructure of the airports at Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalapuram, Lucknow, Guwahati, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

Opposing the move, Vijayan opined that it would be impossible for any private firm to develop the airport without the support from the state government. Vijayan has earlier stated that if Adani group is awarded the bid by Centre, Kerala will not co-operate with them.

It is to be known that on March, the Kerala CM had moved the Kerala High Court against Adani’s lease tender. He had questioned the Centre’s decision and wrote to PM Narendra Modi on how a single private bidder with no experience in the operations of the aviation field won the contract.
