Every passing minute seems to spring a new development in the Ayesha Siddiqui-Shoaib Malik case. After the FIR was filed against Shoaib at Hyderabad by the Siddiqui family yesterday, the cops have decided to question the former Pakistan skipper in the matter.

To add to his woes, Malik will not be allowed to leave the city until the questioning is over. Malik is scheduled to wed tennis sensation Sania Mirza in the city on April 15.

Speaking to MiD DAY, Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan said, "An FIR has been filed in the matter and we will be questioning Malik. He will be allowed to go to Pakistan only after our questioning is over. He cannot leave without our permission." He added that Immigration officials have also been instructed accordingly to ensure that Malik does not leave the country.

A police official from the Banjara Hills police station, on condition of anonymity, said, "We are examining the relevant aspects of the case and some cops have even been posted outside Sania Mirza’s residence in Jubilee Hills, where Shoaib is residing, to monitor his movements. He can be asked to appear before the police at any time."

Despite several attempts, Malik’s brother-in-law Imran Zafar Malik was not available for comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters for the first time since the controversy broke out, Malik said yesterday, "All the allegations made by Ayesha against me are false. I have never met her -- in fact she has cheated me by providing wrong information about her real identity. Sania will be my first wife. This is the truth and Sania’s family knows it."

The complaint filed by Ahmed Siddiqui, Ayesha’s father, last afternoon states that Malik cheated his daughter and harassed her with wrong promises. He has also alleged that the Pakistani cricketer tried to get her to hush up the matter by promising to give her money.

The charges:
Section 498-A: States that whoever, being the husband or relative of the husband of woman, subjects such woman to cruelty shall be punished with the imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and also be liable to a fine.

Section 420 of IPC: Once a person is booked under this section, it is difficult to obtain bail unless there are strong proofs of his innocence. Maximum punishment is seven years.

Section 506: Punishment for criminal intimidation- whoever commits the offence of criminal intimidation shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term that may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

(All three offences are non-bailable offences where the bail will only be granted depending upon the proof presented in the court in the said matter)
