PM Modi receives US President Donald Trump in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Feb 24, 2020:  Kickstarting their two-day visit to India, US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Monday, 24 January.

They are now scheduled to head to Sabarmati Ashram, after which they will hold a 22-kilometre roadshow. This will be followed by the ’Namaste Trump’ event at the Motera stadium in Gujarat.

Prior to their arrival, bonhomie was on full display between PM Modi and Trump on Twitter. Responding to Trump’s tweet in Hindi, saying "we’ll meet everyone in a few hours", PM Modi said "Atithi Devo Bhava (Guest is god)".

Ahead of his arrival in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Monday, 24 February, US President Donald Trump tweeted, "Hum Bharat aane ke liye tatpar hain. Hum raste mein hain, kuch hi ghanton mein sabse milenge (We are ready to come to India. We are on our way, we’ll meet everyone in a few hours)” to which PM Narendra Modi replied “Atithi Devo Bhava (Guest is god)".

PM Modi Arrives in Ahmedabad
PM Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Monday, ahead of his mega roadshow with US President Trump and the ‘Namaste Trump’ event at the Motera stadium.

Modi reached Ahmedabad at 10:25 am, around one-and-a-half hours before the arrival of Trump and his delegation.

He will receive Trump and US First Lady Melania Trump upon their arrival aboard the Air Force One flight, scheduled to land in Ahmedabad at around 11.40 am.

Trump’s Agra Visit: Ticket Counters at Taj to Close at 11:30 am
Hours before the visit of US President Trump to Agra on Monday, the entry to the Taj Mahal will be closed to visitors in view of high-security arrangements, top officials said.

According to Agra DM Prabhu N Singh, Trump is scheduled to arrive at the Taj Mahal complex at 5:15 pm and will spend about an hour at the famed 17th century mausoleum.

"People can visit the Taj in the morning but tickets will be issued till 11:30 am, and by noon or so the premises will be cleared of visitors in view of the high-security arrangements for President Trump’s visit," he was quoted by PTI as saying on Sunday.

Renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik tweeted an image of his sand art at Odisha’s Puri beach for Trump’s India visit.

"We are excited for your first visit to India. It will definitely strengthen Indo-US relationship," Pattnaik wrote.

Around five decades after his parents landed in the US, Indian-American Ajit Pai is travelling to India on board the Air Force One along with President Donald Trump.

Pai (47), who is the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, is among the two Indian-Americans travelling to India along with Trump, the other being Kesh Patel, special assistant to the president and senior director for counter-terrorism, PTI reported.

Hours before US President Donald Trump’s arrival in Ahmedabad on Monday, PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter saying that his "visit is definitely going to further strengthen the friendship between our nations."

Donald Trump will be the sixth US president ever to travel to India and the first one to land in Ahmedabad, where he will be joined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a roadshow and a joint address before a crowd of around one lakh people, reported PTI.

Late on Sunday, Trump, left for his maiden visit to India for talks with top Indian leadership during which the two countries are expected to significantly ramp up bilateral relations, especially in the defence and strategic ties.
