PM Modi coming to watch Chandrayaan-2 landing was bad omen for ISRO : HD Kumaraswamy

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Sep 12, 2019: Former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday said that PM Narendra Modi being there at the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) centre was a bad omen for the scientists, IndiaToday reported.

While Isro successfully launched the Chandrayaan-2 Moon mission in July, just before the landing of Chandrayaan-2’s lander Vikram, Isro lost contact with it.

While speaking in Mysore, HD Kumaraswamy said, "PM Modi came for Chandrayaan-2 like he himself was landing it and he wanted to send that message."

Kumaraswamy said that the scientists had worked really hard on the Moon mission for 10 years. He slammed the prime minister and said that he came to see the landing in Bengaluru like he was the one flying Chandrayaan-2.

"The scientists have worked hard for this for the last 10 years. Chandrayaan-2 cabinet approval was done in 2008. He came to Bengaluru like he’s flying Chandrayaan-2," Kumaraswamy said.

"Maybe the moment he stepped into Isro was not right for the scientists," Kumaraswamy added.

Contact with Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander was lost last Saturday while it attempted landing on the Moon’s surface. Vikram lost contact in the final few minutes of its descent, which went right according to plan for the most part.

According to a statement made by Isro chief K Sivan and an analysis of Vikram’s descent graph, the Chandrayaan-2 lander performed normally up until an altitude of 2.1 km above the lunar surface.
