New Delhi, Feb 12, 2020:   PC Chacko resigned as the Congress in-charge for Delhi on Wednesday after his party, once dominant in the capital territory, failed to win any seats in two consecutive assembly elections.

An ex-MP, PC Chacko earlier blamed the late Sheila Dikshit -- chief minister between 1998 and 2013 -- for the decline of the Delhi Congress.

The Congress’s entire vote bank is now with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he said in an interview with ANI.

That didn’t go down well with Milind Deora, a Congress leader from Mumbai.

"Unfortunate to see her [Sheila Dikshit] being blamed after her death," he tweeted. "She dedicated her life to [the Congress] and the people of Delhi."

For the Congress, the Delhi election has thrown up a moment of bitter reckoning.

Sharmistha Mukherjee, chief of its women’s wing here, publicly called out one of the party’s seniormost leaders for celebrating the BJP’s defeat at the hands of the AAP, which won 62 out of 70 seats in the February 8 election.

"Why are we gloating over the AAP’s victory rather than being concerned about our drubbing?" she asked P Chidambaram, the former central minister of finance and home affairs.

Another top leader, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, said the Congress should find an alternative to Sheila Dikshit and back him throughout the new AAP government’s five-year term.

"Enough of introspection," Sharmistha Mukherjee said on Tuesday, as counting trends showed the writing on the wall.
