No help from govt for son’s treatment: Father of the boy who was with Amanat

Mangalore Today/ NDTV

Lucknow, Jan 4: The family of the friend who was with ’Amanat’ (NOT her real name) when she was raped and assaulted in a moving bus on December 16, has told NDTV they received no help from the government for his medical treatment. The boy’s father said no one from the government even asked them if any help was needed.

NO help for the boy with Amanat

The boy, who is from Uttar Pradesh, was beaten up, stripped and thrown out with Amanat by the six men on the bus. He has reportedly recovered from his injuries and is helping the investigators.

The Delhi government had on Monday announced a compensation of Rs. 15 lakh to the family the 23-year-old girl who died at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on December 29. Apart from the monetary help, the government has also offered a job to one of the family members.

The Uttar Pradesh  government too announced Rs. 20 lakh as compensation. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said, "Rs. 20 lakh has been given. We will help them. I will personally go there and help them."

But Amanat’s brother told NDTV they have not received any compensation yet - neither from the Delhi government nor from Uttar Pradesh.

The gang-rape of the medical student and her subsequent death after a two-week fight for her life in hospitals in Delhi and Singapore has over-whelmed the nation with anger and hurt.

Thousands have vowed that her death shall not be in vain. The government has pledged to improve policing and created committees to review criminal laws and suggest measures to improve security for women in the Capital.
