In a press conference, Nagpur Joint Commissioner of Police Shivaji Bodkhe today said they undertook a "thorough investigation" and his death was due to "heart attack". "Postmortem and forensic reports confirm the same," he said.
Bodkhe said the Nagpur Police investigated the matter after the report of an accidental death in Loya’s case was filed. "The postmortem and medical reports did not find anything unusal or any poisonous elements in his body," the top cop said.

Judge Loya’s death on December 1, 2014 has raised a massive political storm since he was presiding over the special CBI court that was hearing the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case, in which BJP president Amit Shah is one of the accused. Shah was later discharged in the case.

Earlier today, the Supreme Court ordered the Maharashtra government to give all the documents relating to Loya’s death to the petitioners seeking an independent probe into the circumstances behind the death.

The mysterious death had come under the spotlight in November last year after a magazine quoted Loya’s sister, who suspected foul play in the incident.
