Multiple agencies to the rescue in Kodagu

Kodagu, Aug 18, 2018 : Continuing rains in Kodagu district triggered fresh landslides, low-lying areas across the region were inundated and major roads, leading to Madikeri and other important centres, were blocked on Friday.

Relief Commissioner Gangaram Baderia stated that a massive rescue and relief operation involving multiple agencies had been launched.

Sixty personnel from the Dogra regiment and engineering task force of the Army, comprising 73 personnel with boats and rescue equipment, had been pressed into service while 12 expert Navy divers-cum-surface rescuers with rafts had also been deployed, said Mr. Baderia.

In addition, an NDRF team, comprising 31 personnel, and an SDRF team with 30 personnel with boats and rescue equipment were also in place, apart from 200 fire service personnel. The Indian Air Force was forced to abort its mission on Friday owing to inclement weather and would make another attempt at 6.15 a.m. on Saturday and an M17 would fly from Mysuru.


Communication link


Authorities said restoring and maintaining communication link was a priority so as to contact those stranded in remote areas.
