Bangalore, April 15: Refuting allegations that anti-incumbency could be a problem for the Congress party in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said the party will win 18-20 seats from the state in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He was speaking at a meet-the-press programme organised by the Bangalore Reporters’ Guild at the Press Club.

The party, which secured 122 seats in the state Assembly elections last year, will continue its winning streak in the Lok Sabha election, Siddaramaiah said.

“We have fulfilled 95 of the 150 promises we made in our manifesto for the Assembly elections. So far our administration has done nothing to anger the people. We are confident that we will emerge victorious with 18-20 seats,” the Congress leader said.

Siddaramaiah also clarified that Home Minister KJ George, who was spotted campaigning alongside Azam, a rowdy-sheeter, in Bangalore Central, did not know who he was. He alleged negligence on the part of the police department in securing the rally from anti-social elements.

Levelling charges of corruption and scandals against the BJP during its term in the state, Siddaramaiah said its leaders lack the moral aptitude to ask for votes under the party name. The Modi wave is a myth, the chief minister said, and alleged that Gujarat has a high percentage of school dropouts and malnourished children. “Karnataka is among the top two industrial states, while Gujarat is in the third position. Do you still want the Gujarat model?” he said.
