Medicine issue: Patanjali to put disclaimer ’it’s for women not for sex determination’

New Delhi, May 02, 2015: After facing flak from all quarters over a purported ayurvedic product by yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy promising male child, Patanjali Yogapeeth on Saturday stated that a disclaimer will be put on the product, claiming it is for women and has nothing to do with sex determination.

Patanjali Yogapeeth spokesperson SK Tijarawala told Zee News that the institute will soon put a disclaimer on the product.

“Patanjali will put a disclaimer on Putrajeevak medicine that its is for women and has no relation with sex determination,” said Tijarawala.

Patanjali’s statement comes two days after the Rajya Sabha witnessed uproar over much-publicised infertility medicine ’Divya Putrajeevak Seed’.

Several Opposition members had joined in condemning sale of such products and demanded action.

With Opposition members pressing for stringent action, Union Health minister JP Nadda said the issue is related to the Department of Aayush.

"The Government will look into it and proper action will be taken. We are very serious on sex-ratio as PM was personally monitoring the ’Beti Bachao, Beti Padao," he said. He further added that the issue was very serious and he has just been given a packet of the product.

Giving clarification on the matter, Baba Ramdev on Friday addressed a press conference and said that people who are making the allegations have no knowledge of ayurveda.

“The botanical name of ’Divya Putrajeevak Seed’ is ‘Putranjiva roxburghii’ and it is called ‘putrajeevak’ in Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, and Bengali. The medicine helps a childless couple conceive and has nothing to do with sex determination of a child before birth,” he said.
