Mamata biggest gainer in scam: Kunal Ghosh

Kolkata, Nov 24, 2014, DHNS:  Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kunal Ghosh alleged on Monday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the “biggest beneficiary” in the Saradha chit-fund scam, and termed her a “coward”.

“Mamata Banerjee is the biggest beneficiary. She is holding party workers’ meetings to save herself,” alleged Ghosh.

Speaking outside Bankshall Court after being brought from Presidency Correctional Home, he reiterated his demand for a joint questioning by the CBI in the scam, saying: “She is a coward. She should be made to sit in front of me and questioned.”

The suspended MP was brought to court in connection with a case of salary default in Channel 10 news channel, where he was CEO.

He is an accused in the multi-crore Saradha scam case, and was arrested in November 2013 by Bidhannagar Police. Ghosh was taken into custody by CBI in July after it started probing the scam on a Supreme Court order.

Meanwhile, Banerjee on Monday once again claimed that she and the TMC are being targeted as part of a BJP conspiracy.

“There is a conspiracy going on against us. Let them (the BJP) do whatever they want. I’ll show them that no conspiracy can stop us from carrying on with developmental work in the state,” she thundered at a large gathering of supporters at Esplanade in the heart of Kolkata.

“They (the BJP) will not attain success by conspiring against us, because we work for the good of the people,” said Banerjee.

While some party leaders admitted that the TMC’s future seemed bleak with back-to-back elections in 2015 and 2016, a state minister justified Banerjee’s ire, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a “selective vendetta” against her and the party.
