The accused, 35-year-old divorcee Binder Kaur, married Labh Singh alias Rajinder Nangal Sohal, a singer, in 2006 and settled down with him in Talwandi Khurd village of Ladhowal area of Ludhiana. However, the two developed a strained relationship within a few months. Binder suspected her singer husband of cheating on her, and two quarrelled often.

The differences between the two only grew with time until she decided to kill her husband. According to the police, Binder killed Labh in 2012 and buried him in her room after digging a six-foot pit.
The floor of the room was then redone and a 12-foot wall, from floor to ceiling, was erected in front of it. Later, Binder shifted to Amritsar with her two children.

Labh was a popular Punjabi singer in the region and had over 15 music albums to his credit.

Binder married Labh SinghHis fans were shocked when he went "missing under mysterious circumstances" in 2012.

Binder had told her relatives that her husband had left the house without informing anybody. His family members, who did not trust Binder, looked for Labh at several Sikh religious places but failed to locate him.

Labh’s brother Gurdeep, a resident of Ramdas village near Amritsar, was especially suspicious of Binder and lodged a complaint at the Ladhowal police station, accusing his sister-in-law Binder of killing his brother.

According to the police, some villagers told Gurdeep, during his visit to Talwandi Khurd to attend a social function, that Binder had killed his brother and buried the body in the house.

"Labh Singh had gone missing in 2012. [But, in fact] he was killed by Binder. On Gurdeep’s complaint, we started to dig up the room and recovered Labh’s skeleton," SHO Ladhowal Randhir Singh said, adding that Binder was arrested on Tuesday.

Binder’s murder plan was also exposed by her alleged paramour, Sarvjeet Singh alias Shabbi, a resident of Amritsar. Sarvjeet, 33, had spent six months with Binder before she accused him of raping her and kidnapping her son. A case was registered against Sarvjeet in the Ladhowal police station.
