Leopard enters primary school, students spend 4 hrs inside classroom

Rajkot, December 2, 2015: Several students and teachers of a primary school in Gujarat’s Una district locked themselves up inside a classroom after a leopard was found roaming inside the school premises. Upto 40 kids and teachers were confined in one classroom for 4 hours in the primary school in Paldi village, situated near Gir Sanctuary.


Leopard_7After the morning assembly on Tuesday, some students informed the school staff that a ’cat-like’ animal was sitting beneath the staircase. Teachers and some school staff were shocked to see a leopard at the spot.

They immediately locked all the children inside a classroom to prevent the leopard from causing any harm. A large number of people had gathered outside the school as the news about a leopard entering the school spread.

It took the forest department officials over four hours to tranquilize the animal and take it to the nearest animal care centre. It was only after the big cat was taken away by the forest officials the gates of the classroom was opened and the children were allowed to go home.

Villagers claimed that before entering the school compound, the leopard had attacked a man in the adjoining village.

In a separate incident in Amreli district, two lions killed a cow in Kathivadar village on Tuesday morning. A Times of India report said that the lions entered Kathivadar in Rajula taluka and killed the cow just outside the house of one Rambhai Vagh at around 6 am.
