Land stir: Unfazed Maya says Rahul indulging in

Mangalore Today News Network

Mayawati Lucknow, May 12: Hitting back at the Opposition, especially the Congress, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Thursday, alleged that a political conspiracy is at play in Greater Noida where famers are protesting against the land acquisition policy of the state government.

She said that the farmers of Bhatta Parsaul village – the epicentre of the stir where Rahul Gandhi sat on a dharna yesterday – had given their land willingly not to any private developer, as being alleged, but to the Greater Noida Development Authority for development as per the master plan.

"By spreading lies and rumours, opposition parties are attempting to disturb law and order situation, and misleading people. Bhatta Parsaul incident is an example of their dirty politics," Mayawati told reporters here.

“The land was acquired in 2009-2010 and adequate compensation was given to all the farmers. Opposition parties are now raking up the issue as they want to malign the state government ahead of the upcoming Assembly Elections in the state,” she said.

Chiding Rahul Gandhi for visiting Bhatta Parsaul village, Mayawati said that Congress’ yuvraj is indulging in "mean dramatics" in Uttar Pradesh, when he should be pressing the central government for the formulation of a uniform land acquisition policy.

“The onus is on the central government to formulate a new policy, UP state government can’t do anything about it,” she said.

She also pointed out that while Rahul was in Greater Noida to protest against the state government’s land acquisition policy; there were protests against the land acquired for the rail coach factory in Sonia Gandhi’s constituency Rai Bareli.

Mayawati also alleged that all the political parties – Congress, BJP, SP – have joined hands to discredit her government.

“The people of the state understand everything. Whenever opposition parties have attacked my party or me, our party has emerged stronger,” she added.
